  1. MacDrevi0us Says:

    They only have the …
They only have the Root and the fifth in common. Its the exclusive notes that they each have that give them their “color” up against certain chords.

  2. NyrockXZX Says:

    well if you think …
well if you think about it in relation, C major pentatonic and A minor pentatonic have the same notes.

  3. MacDrevi0us Says:

    The Minor …
The Minor Pentatonic is: First-Flat 3rd- Fourth-Fifth-Flat seventh (in relation to major scale degrees)

The Major Pentatonic is First-Second-third-fifth-sixth (also in relation to major scale degrees of that same key)

Therefore, they do not have the same notes as each other but the major pentatonic is bringing out more of the major scale degrees to compliment the chords differently.

    That´s correct !.. …
That´s correct !.. it´s the same shape, i mean it´s like you were playing E minor pentatonic, the only thing is that the root note changes.

  5. scootermo Says:

  6. VedicIntelligentsia Says:

    That was funny right.

You see, I don’t know anything about music theory. I just memorized a bunch of scales and I play them up and down the neck like a manic. Gives me a massive endorphin rush.

  8. pogg11 Says:

    no, modes are …
no, modes are another thing. you don’ t have to learn a lot about this kind of concept that he explained in the video. just think it like this:
the major scale has the same notes (and the same shape) of the minor scale. the difference is in the root. it’ s the same thing for the pentatonic scales. hope i helped you =)
ps: if i made mistakes in my english, sorry. i’ m italian

  10. gregorybalint Says:

    it’s simple, all …
it’s simple, all the major scale has the parallel minor scale.
So G major has the same notes as E minor. The different is just 3 steps. A major = F# minor, etc. If you learn that, you can simply change the scales.

  12. scootermo Says:

    Wait, …what he’s …
Wait, …what he’s calling G Major pent scale is actually position 5, of the 5 Minor pent scales. Thats the patterns for the 5 miner pent scales that I’ve learned, If I’m wrong can somebody correct me.
Scales can be confusing but I dont think they have to be.

  25. bigleemac Says:

    Major pentatonics …
Major pentatonics need a major feel to work over, so major chords. If you had a minor progression in the usual 1,4,5 blues format using minor chords then the minor pentatonic would be better to use, although blues has a simple structure which means you can great results from mixing major and minor feel like BB king does.
dont forget that penta simply means five, and that penta-tonic means five notes/tones, so a pentatonic is only a shortened scale from the major/minor scale.
