You have to make …
You have to make the faces and actions though while playing. Otherwise the guitar won’t make the sounds you want, it senses your fear and lack of confidence.

It looks to me like Marty is showing what is called a “4 note coil”. This practice routine is outlined in a very boring book.. “Carl Fischer, The Exercise Book for Guitar”. Marty shows you how to do it, and how to make use of the practice routine, and how it can be fun.
He doesn’t mention that you should know the “coil” going both directions, or that you should know it for all the different Pentatonic shapes. (You should)
